Chapter 13 - The Last Bargain.

The chapel tunnel ended beneath Blackthorne's private garage, where an armored SUV waited beside a locked helicopter hangar.
Adrian held Helena by the arm and ordered Claire to bring the authentication key.
Brenner followed with Mara, desperate to keep himself inside Adrian's escape plan.
Eleanor and Elias remained behind with the guests while Quinn circled through the gardens.
Claire entered the garage alone and showed Adrian the silver key between two fingers.
"Release Helena first."
"You still think she deserves rescue?"
"What she deserves will be decided somewhere you cannot overturn the table."
Adrian laughed, but the line landed hard enough to tighten his jaw.
He demanded that Helena sign an irrevocable transfer of her personal trust.
Without that money, no pilot, official, or foreign bank would protect him for long.
Mara claimed she could draft the transfer if Brenner allowed her to use the office terminal.
The police chief cut the plastic restraint from one wrist and pushed her toward the keyboard.
Mara opened a blank legal form while secretly reconnecting the building's camera network.
Claire kept Adrian focused on the key.
"You could have been the hero who saved the pension fund."
"Heroes inherit gratitude," he said.
"I wanted ownership."
Helena looked at him with a grief deeper than fear.
"Your father loved you, Adrian."
"Father tested me until love felt like an invoice."
"And I protected you until protection became permission."
The garage fell quiet except for the rain hammering the metal roof.
Even Brenner looked away, as though the sentence had exposed more than any ledger ever could.
Mara finished the document and rotated the screen toward Helena.
Hidden beneath the signature box was a notification that the garage feed was live.
Helena saw it and asked Adrian to explain exactly what the transfer purchased.
He described the bribed officers, offshore aircraft, and new identity Brenner had arranged.
He also admitted Rook had moved Eleanor on his orders.
Brenner realized too late that the terminal camera was recording.
He seized Mara and tried to smash the screen.
Adrian struck him first, shouting that only a fool attacked the lawyer before she transferred the money.
Their partnership ended in a frantic struggle beside the SUV.
Claire pulled Helena behind a concrete pillar.
Quinn entered through the loading door and ordered both men to surrender.
Brenner raised his weapon, but Mara slammed the garage fire door against his arm.
The weapon fell beneath the SUV, and Quinn placed him in handcuffs.
Adrian climbed into the driver's seat and started the engine.
Claire pressed the hangar control, but nothing moved.
Jonah had cut the system during the fire.
Adrian accelerated through the wooden service doors instead.
The armored vehicle shattered them and disappeared into the rain.
The broken doors swung behind him like the last pieces of Blackthorne's carefully guarded reputation.
Claire looked beside her and found only Helena's hospital coat.
Adrian had pulled his mother into the passenger seat during the struggle.
Her black phone rang from the floor where it had been dropped.
Claire answered and heard Adrian breathing over the road noise.
"Bring the drive to Black Bridge."
Helena cried out in the background as the vehicle changed gears.
