The days that followed their escape were a whirlwind of logistics and lingering anxiety. Mariana jumped at every sudden sound, her mind still conditioned to the harsh, unpredictable environment of the Alcazar estate. But Leo’s penthouse was a fortress of tranquility.
Leo spent hours in his home office, his deep voice muffled behind heavy oak doors as he made calls. He was systematically dismantling his security contracts with the Alcazar empire, transferring assets, and establishing a legal ironclad wall around Mariana and her daughters.
One afternoon, he emerged with a stack of folders. "I have a team of lawyers working on your emancipation from the family," Leo explained, setting the documents on the dining table. "Beatriz will try to claim you are unfit to care for the girls. She will want them back, not out of love, but out of control."
Mariana’s hands trembled as she looked at the legal jargon. "She has endless resources, Leo. Judges, politicians… they all owe her favors."

I was their head of security, Mariana. I know exactly where the bodies are buried. She won’t risk a public war with me."
