Chapter 6 - The Alcazar Reach

Beatriz Alcazar was not a woman who accepted defeat gracefully. By the end of the week, the intercom in Leo’s penthouse buzzed. The building’s concierge announced that a Mr. Vance, the chief legal counsel for the Alcazar family, was in the lobby demanding to see Mariana.

Panic flared in Mariana’s chest, but Leo placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Let him up," Leo told the concierge. "But hold him in the private elevator vestibule."

Leo stepped out of the apartment, locking the door behind him to keep Mariana and the girls safe inside. Through the security cameras, Mariana watched the feed on Leo’s tablet.

Vance, a slick, sharp-suited man, looked smug as the elevator doors opened. "Leo," he sneered. "Mrs. Alcazar is willing to overlook this dramatic stunt if you return the girls immediately. Mariana can stay in the gutter for all we care."

Leo didn’t flinch. He handed Vance a single, sealed manila envelope. "Take this back to Beatriz," Leo said, his voice cold and flat. "Inside are the routing numbers for the offshore accounts she uses to bypass federal tax laws, along with dates and signatures. Tell her if anyone from her family, or her payroll, comes within a hundred miles of Mariana or those girls, these go to the feds, the press, and her rival cartel families."

Vance opened the envelope, his smug expression melting into pale horror. He swallowed hard, nodded curtly, and got back into the elevator. The threat was neutralized in less than three minutes.
