Chapter 12: The First Steps

The day finally came for Finn’s cast to be removed. The entire family crowded into Dr. Evans' examination room, holding their collective breath as the veterinary technician carefully sawed through the blue fiberglass.
"Alright, buddy, let's see what you can do," Dr. Evans said, gently lifting Finn off the examination table and placing him on the floor.
Finn stood perfectly still for a moment, his back leg trembling slightly. He looked down at his freed paw as if he didn't quite understand what it was.
Arthur knelt at the opposite end of the room, clapping his hands softly. "Come here, Finn. Come on, boy."
Finn looked up. His ears perked forward. Gingerly, he took one step with his newly healed leg. Then another. Realizing there was no pain, no heavy weight dragging him down, his eyes lit up.

Lily cheered, and Eleanor wiped a happy tear from her cheek. Arthur buried his face in Finn’s golden fur, holding the dog tightly against his chest. The healing was complete—for both of them.
