Chapter 9: Naming Finn

Three days later, the house felt entirely different. The grand, dark-toned modern architecture of their home was suddenly softened by the presence of a plush, oversized dog bed in the center of the living room, surrounded by squeaky toys and soft blankets.
Arthur knelt on the floor, holding the kitchen door open as Eleanor and Lily walked in. In Lily's arms was the golden retriever puppy, now sporting a bright blue cast on his back leg and a plastic cone around his neck. He looked ridiculous, but his eyes were bright, and his tail wagged furiously at the sight of Arthur.
"Welcome home, buddy," Arthur said, reaching out to scratch the puppy gently behind the ears.
Lily carefully lowered the dog into his new bed. "I decided on a name, Daddy," she announced proudly.
"Oh? Let's hear it," Arthur smiled.

"Finn," Lily declared, adjusting the blanket around the puppy. "Because Mom said we found him, but I think he found us. Like a great adventure."
"Finn," Arthur tested the name on his tongue. The puppy barked softly, a tiny, raspy sound, and licked Arthur's knuckles. "I think Finn is absolutely perfect."
