Chapter 11 - The Frame.

.The recovered image destroyed Victor's last advantage.
It did not show what happened inside Olivia's room.
It did show that he had lied.
Evan stared at the screen until the pixels blurred.
Claire stood beside him in silence.
Noah immediately sent the still image to an external incident archive beyond the hospital's internal network.
"Now it cannot disappear with a local deletion," he said.
Marcus looked sick.
"Rebecca told me she was going home after the gala."
Claire did not soften.
"Your wife entered Olivia's room wearing the exact color Olivia warned us about."
"I can see that."
"Then stop defending her."
Marcus looked at Claire.
"I am not defending anyone."
Evan finally spoke.
"Where would Rebecca take Victor?"
Marcus hesitated.
"She owns a townhouse downtown."
Noah shook his head.
"Security can preserve evidence here, but this is beyond my authority now."
"Then call the police," Claire said.
Evan nodded.
"Do it."
The decision felt overdue.
Noah contacted law enforcement and hospital legal counsel.
Within minutes, the tone inside the building changed.
People stopped calling the situation a misunderstanding.
They started calling it an investigation.
Dana remained near Olivia's room.
Marcus was instructed not to access the electronic chart.
Claire finally sat down.
The adrenaline seemed to leave her all at once.
Evan noticed the faint mark still visible on her cheek.
He sat across from her.
"Claire."
She looked at him.
"Not now."
"I need to say it."
"You need to understand it first."
Evan swallowed.
She continued before he could speak.
"You were scared."
"That is not an excuse."
"No."
Her voice stayed controlled.
"It is not."
Evan nodded.
"I was wrong."
"You decided I was guilty in five seconds."
"I know."
"And then you acted before you listened."
"I know."
Claire looked toward Olivia's door.
"If that camera had not been there, would you ever have believed me?"
The question hurt because Evan did not know the answer.
His silence answered for him.
Claire stood.
"That is what you need to fix."
Before he could respond, Noah approached quickly.
"We found Victor."
Evan stood.
"Where?"
"He came back into the building through the loading dock."
Claire frowned.
"Why would he come back?"
Noah looked at the tablet.
"Because he is not alone."
A loading-dock camera showed Victor entering with Rebecca.
Between them was a rolling document case.
They were heading toward the hospital archive room.
Marcus stepped forward.
"The archive room contains paper backups of foundation contracts."
Claire's eyes widened.
"They are not escaping."
Noah nodded.
"They are cleaning up."
Evan looked down the corridor toward the service elevator.
The indicator changed from B1 to 1.
Then 2.
Then 3.
Claire remained seated after the others stood, studying the recovered image of Victor and Rebecca.
She noticed Victor was not carrying the document case when he first appeared in the garage footage.
That meant he had returned for it later or stored it somewhere inside the hospital.
Noah agreed and requested camera views from the loading dock, archive corridor, and service elevators.
The investigation was no longer chasing one missing file.
May you like
It was tracing a route through the building.
The archive room was on four.
