Chapter 9 - The Red Jacket.

.Her name was Rebecca Hale.

Evan had met her twice.

Both times she had seemed polished, pleasant, and almost deliberately forgettable.

She served on the hospital foundation's finance committee.

She also owned a consulting company that reviewed outside vendor contracts.

Claire stared at the garage image.

"Olivia was auditing foundation spending."

Noah nodded.

"And Rebecca reviewed the same spending."

Dana looked increasingly uncomfortable.

"This is bigger than a patient complaint."

Evan turned to her.

"What are you not telling us?"

Dana rubbed her hands together.

"Olivia asked me a strange question earlier today."

"What question?"

"She asked whether medical charts could be changed after a doctor signed them."

Claire's eyes narrowed.

"What did you say?"

"I said changes would leave an electronic record."

"And then?"

"She asked who could see that record."

Evan remembered Olivia's words.

He changed my chart.

"Marcus," he said.

Noah looked at him.

"What exactly did she say?"

Evan repeated it.

Dana's face tightened.

"Then we need the audit log."

They returned upstairs.

Noah used his security credentials to request a systems administrator.

The administrator arrived nervous and defensive.

"I cannot give patient records to security."

Evan stepped forward.

"I am her emergency contact."

"That still does not authorize internal metadata access."

Claire spoke calmly.

"Then preserve it."

The administrator looked at her.

"Excuse me?"

"Do not show it to us."

"Just preserve the change log before someone deletes anything else."

Noah nodded.

"That falls within incident response."

The administrator reluctantly agreed.

Ten minutes later, he returned with a different expression.

"There was a chart amendment at 6:18 p.m."

Evan's pulse quickened.

"By whom?"

"Dr. Hale's account."

Dana whispered, "What changed?"

The administrator hesitated.

"A medication order was removed from the visible chart."

Claire's face went still.

"Was it actually administered?"

"The system shows a scanned medication entry at 6:07."

Evan felt cold.

"So Olivia received something, and then the order disappeared from her chart."

"That is what the metadata indicates."

The administrator looked frightened by his own words.

Noah asked, "Can you preserve that log offline?"

"Yes."

"Do it now."

The elevator doors opened behind them.

Dr. Marcus Hale stepped into the corridor wearing a white coat over evening clothes.

He looked exhausted.

"Evan."

Evan turned.

Marcus raised both hands.

"Before anyone says another word, Olivia's chart was changed because I corrected an error."

Claire stepped beside Evan.

"Then why did your wife leave with Victor Sloan during a camera blackout?"

Marcus stopped.

His face gave them the answer before his mouth did.

"Rebecca is with Victor?"

Noah watched him carefully.

"You did not know?"

Marcus looked toward Olivia's room.

"Lock that door."

Evan's voice hardened.

"Why?"

Marcus swallowed.

Dana explained that Rebecca often visited administrative areas under the excuse of foundation business, even though she was not hospital staff.

She had seen Rebecca near the pharmacy corridor more than once during board events.

Noah immediately added that information to the incident timeline.

Claire asked whether visitor access was logged.

The answer was yes, but the logs were controlled by the same administrative system already under suspicion.

That meant they needed copies before anyone realized how many separate trails were beginning to point in the same direction.

"Because if Rebecca has the audit folder, Olivia is the only person left who can explain what is inside it."
