CHAPTER 3: THE CLOSEST ENEMY

The truth came faster than anyone expected.
Security footage was pulled up. Every entrance. Every movement.
Emma stood beside Adrian as the footage played.
Then—something.
A man approached earlier. Not a stranger.
One of Adrian’s most trusted bodyguards.
Marco.
Emma frowned. “Pause it.”
The screen froze.
Marco was holding the baby—just for a moment. Too brief to notice at the time. But now… it was everything.
Adrian’s voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “Bring him to me.”
Minutes later, Marco was on his knees.
“I didn’t—” he started.
Adrian didn’t raise his voice. “You had one job.”
Marco’s eyes flickered—not with guilt, but fear.
“They said they’d kill my family,” he whispered.
The room went still.
“They forced me,” Marco said, shaking. “I didn’t know what the device was for. I swear.”
Emma looked at Adrian.
For the first time, she saw something shift in his eyes.

Not just anger.
Something deeper.
