CHAPTER 6: THE QUIET AFTERMATH

The restaurant reopened days later.

Everything looked the same.

But nothing felt the same.

Emma returned to work, expecting life to move on.

But one evening, a black car pulled up outside.

Adrian stepped out.

No guards this time.

No tension.

Just him.

He walked in, eyes scanning until they found her.

“I came to say thank you,” he said.

Emma crossed her arms lightly. “You already did.”

He shook his head. “Not like this.”

He placed something on the table.

A small envelope.

Inside—enough money to change her life.

Emma looked at it… then back at him.

“I didn’t help for this.”

“I know,” Adrian said. “That’s why you deserve it.”

She hesitated.

Then slowly pushed it back.

“Keep it,” she said. “Just… make sure that baby grows up safe.”

For a moment, Adrian said nothing.

Then, unexpectedly… he smiled.

Not the cold smile people feared.

A real one.

“He will,” Adrian said. “Because of you.”

As he turned to leave, the weight of the night finally lifted.

Emma watched him go.

And for the first time, she realized—

Sometimes, the smallest voice in the room…

May you like

Is the one that changes everything.

THE END.
