Chapter 4: The Matriarch’s Venom

Evelyn peeked through her trembling fingers, only to be met with a cold, devastating reality. The other guests, including the older man and the younger associate, sat frozen in their chairs. Their silence was not borne of shock, but of complicity—a damning endorsement of Marcus’s brutality. But the psychological assault was only just beginning.

Before the sharp echoes of the shattering glass could even fade into the high ceilings, Marcus’s mother, Eleanor, made her move. Wearing a pristine cream-colored top adorned with a string of expensive pearls, Eleanor rose aggressively from her chair across the table. There was not an ounce of maternal concern in her eyes for the terrified, cowering woman across from her. Instead, Eleanor’s face twisted into an ugly, theatrical sneer of absolute disgust.

She leaned heavily forward over the table, using her authoritative posture to corner Evelyn further. Eleanor jabbed a sharp, perfectly manicured finger directly at Evelyn’s hunched form. "Sign the papers, loser!" Eleanor shrieked. Her voice cut through the room, loud, abrasive, and dripping with a vicious, entitled cruelty. It was a coordinated attack. They wanted to break her spirit completely, using humiliation and terror to force her signature. Evelyn realized with a chilling certainty that she was entirely alone in a room full of monsters.
