Chapter 12 - Laura's Choice.

Faith inserted the storage card and opened Laura's final encrypted message.

Her mother's face appeared on the conference screen.

"Faith, if you are seeing this, someone has made privacy and truth look like enemies."

Laura explained that the apparent two-command trap was false.

A third option existed inside the necklace's engraved letter.

Faith rotated the pendant and found a sequence of tiny numbers.

Daniel entered the code with twelve seconds remaining.

The server separated personal records from financial evidence, preserving the proof while locking private medical and family files.

Martin's confidence vanished.

Investigators escorted him from the room after confirming charges would be reviewed through proper legal process.

The directors suspended Martin and appointed Helen to oversee an independent audit.

Connor remained chief executive only on the condition that he disclose Green Harbor to employees and repay every diverted dollar.

He accepted without negotiation.

Evelyn resigned from the board.

Outside the conference room, reporters gathered around Faith.

They asked whether she had planned to expose the Hale family.

"I planned to take my son home because he had a fever," she said.

"Everything after that happened because powerful people mistook silence for permission."

Her words spread quickly online.

Most responses supported her, but anonymous accounts accused her of destroying a respected family.

One post included a photograph taken through Noah's daycare fence that morning.

The account disappeared moments later.

Martin was in custody, and Grant was cooperating.

Someone else had taken the picture.

Connor moved Faith and Noah to a secured guesthouse while investigators examined the post.

Evelyn asked to speak with Faith alone.

She revealed that Martin had not created the original surveillance file.

The first report had been ordered by Thomas Hale years earlier, before his death.

He had been watching Laura because he believed she held evidence about Green Harbor.

The investigator who built that file still worked privately for the Hale family.

His name was Samuel Price.

Faith recognized the name.

Samuel Price was also the name Noah's father had used before disappearing during Faith's pregnancy.

"That cannot be a coincidence," Faith said.

Evelyn handed her an old photograph.

The man beside Thomas Hale was older, but Faith recognized his eyes immediately.

Samuel Price had not abandoned her by accident.

He had entered her life because of the necklace.
