Chapter 1: The Evidence Locker


The ambulance disappeared beyond the gates, its siren fading into the distance.
Arthur remained standing beside his truck as federal agents secured every piece of evidence.
Lily's cracked phone.
Richard's custody papers.
The blood-stained rug removed from the mansion.
Even the champagne glass Richard had been holding was collected before anyone could wash it.
Richard laughed nervously.
"This is ridiculous."
One agent calmly replied,
"That's for a judge to decide."
As the evidence boxes were sealed, another black SUV arrived.
Out stepped a forensic technology specialist.
"The phone is still recording," she said.
"And it uploaded everything to cloud storage before we arrived."
Richard's smile disappeared.
