Chapter 11: The Fire Spreads
The first article dropped at 6:00 a.m.
By noon, it was everywhere.
A network of corruption tied to politicians, corporate leaders, and financial institutions began unraveling faster than anyone expected. What had once been whispers in private rooms was now printed in bold headlines across the country.
Lily watched it unfold on the television.
“They’re panicking,” she said.
Arthur nodded.
“They should be.”
Phones rang nonstop. Reporters demanded statements. Authorities announced new investigations. And for the first time, the people who had always hidden behind power were forced into the light.
But exposure comes with a cost.
That night, the power went out.
The house fell into darkness.
Then came the sound of glass breaking.
Arthur moved instantly.
“Stay upstairs,” he ordered.
But Lily didn’t listen.
She followed.
Two men had forced their way inside.
Not professionals.
Desperate.
“Where is it?” one of them shouted.
Arthur didn’t hesitate.
“It’s already out.”
The man froze.
“What?”

“You’re too late.”
