Chapter 13: What Remains

Weeks turned into months.

Life didn’t go back to what it was.

It became something new.

Lily started working with organizations that helped victims of financial exploitation. She spoke publicly—not as someone who had survived quietly, but as someone who had fought back.

Arthur stayed mostly out of the spotlight.

He built something smaller this time.

A foundation.

One focused on truth, accountability, and second chances.

Not power.

Never power again.

One afternoon, Lily found him in the garden, hands in the soil.

“You could’ve had everything back,” she said.

Arthur smiled without looking up.

“I already do.”

She sat beside him.

“No,” she said gently. “I mean the old life.”

Arthur finally met her eyes.

“That life was built on control,” he said. “This one is built on choice.”

He handed her a small plant.

“Help me grow something that matters.”

And she did.
