The silence between them was heavy, not with anger, but with the profound weight of their new reality. The DNA test had cleared them of any biological relation, meaning their romantic relationship could theoretically continue, but the emotional landscape had been completely bulldozed.
Mark leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his hands clasped tightly. "I spent my whole life trying to be the perfect son, trying to earn a legacy that, it turns out, wasn't even mine by birth. And you..." He looked up, his dark eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and awe. "You had to scrape by in the foster system, fighting for everything, when you should have been growing up in that house."

"And biology doesn't erase the twenty-five years of love your parents gave you. You are their son. That hasn't changed, and neither has my love for you. We just have a lot more to figure out now."
Mark exhaled a long breath, pulling her into a tight embrace. The foundation of their world had cracked, but holding onto each other, they realized the structure they had built together was strong enough to withstand the earthquake.
