Chapter 7 - The Penthouse

The city skyline stretched endlessly beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Chloe stood in the center of the vast living room.

The penthouse was a masterpiece of modern architecture and cold, untouchable luxury.

Every surface was polished marble, dark wood, and brushed steel.

It was a place designed for displaying immense wealth, not for actual living.

Mr. Sterling walked quietly into the room, carrying a small silver tray.

He set it down gently on the massive glass coffee table.

"I took the liberty of ordering a mild tea, Miss Mason," he said smoothly.

"You have had a remarkably taxing afternoon."

Chloe finally turned away from the breathtaking view of the city below.

"Thank you, Mr. Sterling."

She walked over to the plush velvet sofa and sat down slowly.

The sheer reality of what she had accomplished was finally settling into her bones.

She was no longer the poor, quiet fiancé desperately trying to survive a hostile family.

She was the sole owner of one of the most powerful real estate empires in the state.

Mr. Sterling stood nearby, his posture impeccably straight and professional.

"The transition team is already securing the main corporate offices," he informed her.

"Eleanor's personal accounts have been frozen pending the final financial audit."

Chloe picked up the delicate porcelain teacup.

"And Liam?" she asked quietly.

"His trust fund was tied directly to the company's primary equity," Mr. Sterling replied.

"Since that equity was transferred to cover his mother's staggering debt, the trust is effectively empty."

Chloe took a small sip of the warm, soothing tea.

She felt no wicked triumph in their financial ruin.

She only felt a profound, exhausting relief that their toxic grip on her life was permanently broken.

"Let them keep the smaller summer house in upstate New York," Chloe said softly.

Mr. Sterling raised a single, surprised eyebrow.

"Are you certain, ma'am?" he asked.

"They have shown you nothing but absolute contempt for years."

"I am not doing it for them," Chloe answered, looking back out at the sprawling city.

"I am doing it so I never have to look in the mirror and see Eleanor staring back at me."
