Chapter 9 - The Boardroom

The glass doors of the downtown headquarters parted smoothly.

Chloe walked into the grand lobby with Mr. Sterling trailing a half-step behind.

The enormous corporate logo, previously a source of deep anxiety, now belonged entirely to her.

Nervous whispers followed her as she crossed the polished granite floor.

Employees stared, recognizing the woman who was supposed to be just a quiet bride.

The private executive elevator chimed gently and opened to the top floor.

The atmosphere inside the main boardroom was incredibly thick with tension.

Twelve senior executives sat rigidly around the massive mahogany table.

Nobody spoke as Chloe entered the room and walked directly to the head chair.

She didn't sit down immediately.

She placed the blue financial folder onto the pristine surface of the table with a soft thud.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Chloe said, her voice clear and carrying no tremor.

A nervous, scattered chorus of greetings echoed hesitantly back to her.

"I am aware that several of you prepared resignation letters this morning," she continued smoothly.

She slowly unbuttoned her suit jacket and finally took her seat.

"I am not interested in your resignations right now."

An older man near the center of the table cleared his throat nervously.

"Miss Mason, we were deliberately kept in the dark regarding Eleanor's offshore accounts," he stammered.

Chloe fixed him with a calm, unblinking stare.

"Ignorance is not a defense when your primary job is financial oversight," Chloe countered sharply.

"You were either complicit in her embezzlement, or you were entirely incompetent."

The senior executive looked down at the table, his face flushing a deep, embarrassed red.

"However, replacing the entire board today would create severe market instability," Chloe stated clearly.

"Therefore, you are all on a strict, six-month probationary period."

She opened the blue folder, revealing pages of newly drafted corporate policies.

"We are going to rebuild this company's integrity from the ground up."

"Anyone who fails to meet my new standards of absolute transparency will be immediately terminated."

The men around the table nodded hastily, a profound wave of relief washing over the room.

They had expected a tyrant, but instead, they found a focused, undeniable leader.
