Chapter 5 - Elena's Warning.
Sophia carried the music box into Julian's study and locked the door behind her.
Julian recognized Elena's handwriting before he read a single word.
The note explained that Elena had discovered unexplained transfers from Leo's medical trust shortly before the birth.
She believed Bianca and Grant were using a consulting company to move the money.
Elena had planned to confront them after Leo came home.
She never had the chance.
Her note did not accuse them of causing her death.
It accused them of preparing to use any family crisis to seize control.
Julian sat down as though the room had tilted.
He had trusted his sister to handle paperwork while he stayed beside Elena at the hospital.
"I gave Bianca every password," he said.
Sophia placed the camera drive beside the note.
"Then she had every opportunity." They called an independent technology specialist named Marcus Lane.
Marcus copied the drive and recovered the deleted corridor footage.
The video showed Celeste entering the nursery pantry with a pale-blue sleeve visible beneath a dark coat.
It showed her carrying a prepared bottle and leaving with Sophia's sealed sample.
It also showed Grant entering Julian's study at 6:05.
Seven minutes later, the false dismissal letter was signed.
The footage did not show Bianca.
Grant claimed he had entered the study to retrieve legal documents.
Celeste said the bottle contained ordinary milk and that she removed the sample because it was improperly stored.
They had explanations for every image.
What they did not know was that Marcus had recovered audio.
In the recording, Celeste told Grant that "the nanny's success changed the schedule." Grant replied that they would "make success look reckless." Julian's hands tightened into fists, but Sophia urged him to remain calm.
They needed evidence that would survive the hearing, not an angry confrontation recorded out of context.
Marcus traced the consulting company named in Elena's note.
Its registered director was Grant's brother-in-law.
Three payments had been approved using Julian's electronic credentials.
Each approval occurred while Julian was at the hospital without his laptop.
Sophia expected Julian to feel vindicated.
Instead, he looked destroyed.
"I should have seen it," he said.
"You were caring for your wife and child," Sophia replied.
"They counted on you blaming yourself." Leo cried through the monitor.
Julian reached for it, then paused out of old fear.
Sophia placed the receiver in his hand.
"Go to him." In the nursery, Julian prepared the bottle while Sophia guided him from a few feet away.
Leo drank from his father's hands.
Julian smiled through tears, and Sophia knew the moment mattered more than any document.
Then the mansion alarm sounded.
Marcus ran from the study.
The original camera drive, Elena's note, and the copied financial records were gone.
On Julian's desk remained a single court order.
Bianca had obtained temporary custody of Leo until the hearing.
