Julian contacted the investigator and police rather than rushing to the address alone.
That choice disappointed Grant's plan.
At the records office, officers found Celeste locked in a filing room but unharmed.
Boxes of original trust records surrounded her.
She admitted taking Sophia's sealed bottle, planting the key, and removing the camera drive.
She said Grant had ordered each act.
The bottle had contained the correct formula but had been deliberately chilled and mixed at the wrong concentration so Leo would reject it.
Grant did not intend lasting harm.
He intended to manufacture a pattern of failed care that could be blamed on Julian.
The calculated indifference horrified Sophia more than open anger would have.
To Grant, a newborn's distress had been a line in a legal strategy.
Celeste explained that Elena had hired her months earlier to trace the missing trust money.
When Grant discovered the investigation, he trapped Celeste through fraudulent accounts opened in her son's name.
She had tried to protect both families and ended by betraying them.
Julian did not forgive her.
He promised only that her cooperation would be reported truthfully.
Among the boxes, police found the original camera drive and Elena's handwritten note.
They also found Bianca's signed approvals.
Bianca arrived at the police station with her own attorney.
For the first time, she looked frightened rather than powerful.
She admitted Grant had pressured her but insisted she filed for guardianship because Julian truly seemed broken.
"You saw me grieving and called it weakness," Julian said.
"I saw a company collapsing with you," Bianca replied.
"Leo is not a company." The words silenced the room.
Sophia returned to the mansion before dawn to prepare Leo's feeding.
The baby drank steadily from Julian's hands while she updated the chart.
The scene resembled the first morning, but Julian no longer stood helpless in the doorway.
He had learned the temperature, the angle, the pauses, and the quiet song.
"You did this," he told Sophia.
"You did," she answered.
At seven, Maya received the evidence list.
One item was missing.
The police had not found Elena's original voice recorder.
The device from the chapel was only a duplicate.
Grant could still challenge it.
Celeste remembered seeing Bianca take the original weeks earlier.
Bianca denied it.
The hearing began in two hours.
Without the original, Grant's attorneys could argue that Elena's warning had been edited.
Then Sophia remembered the cream blanket.
Elena had sewn a narrow pocket into one corner, hidden beneath the embroidered initials.
Sophia opened the stitching carefully.
Inside was a tiny memory card and a note containing four words.
