Victoria tried to recover.
“They misbehaved at the charity event,” she said quickly. “
They humiliated me in front of donors.
I had to teach them a lesson.”
Nathan stared at her like he was seeing a stranger.
“These are children,” he said.
“Our children.”
“They represent this family!” she shot back. “
Everything we built—your reputation, your empire—”
“My empire?” Nathan cut in sharply.
“You think I built all of this so my children could live in fear?”
The little girl clung to his jacket.
“Daddy… please don’t leave us here again.”
Nathan froze.
Again.
That word echoed louder than anything else.
He looked back at Victoria, realization dawning.
