Victoria stood in the grand hall,
arms crossed, waiting.
“You’re overreacting,”
she said as Nathan approached.
“No,” he replied. “I’m waking up.”
She laughed bitterly.
“You think you’re a perfect father?
You’re never here.”
“And you used that,” he said.
“You turned my absence into their nightmare.”
Victoria’s expression hardened.
“They made me look weak.”
“They’re children,” Nathan repeated.
“No,” she said coldly.
“They’re liabilities.”
That was the moment Nathan realized something terrifying.
