Nathan carried the children upstairs.

Endless travel.

He gently laid them in the living room,
wrapping them in blankets.
“Has Mommy done this before?”
he asked softly.

then nodded.
“When you’re gone,” he whispered.
“She says we’re mistakes.”
Nathan’s heart shattered.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
he asked.
“The staff knows,” the boy said.
“But they’re scared.”
