Chapter 14 - The Ceremony That Became a Reckoning.

Grant walked into the ballroom as if he owned it.

"Perfect."

He looked at the gathered board members.

"Now everyone can hear the truth at once."

Claire almost admired the performance.

Grant accused Ethan of creating a private company to siphon money from Bennett Hospitality.

He accused Claire of allowing personal emotion to interfere with corporate judgment.

Then he turned to Vivian.

"And this is exactly why leadership cannot remain concentrated in one household."

Two board members exchanged uneasy looks.

Claire understood his strategy immediately.

He was no longer trying to hide the scandal.

He was trying to use it.

Vivian said nothing.

Neither did Claire.

Grant continued until Naomi stepped forward.

"Are you finished?"

Grant smiled.

"For now."

Naomi placed copies of the old consulting agreement on a table.

Then she placed the fake proxy beside it.

Then the access logs.

Then Sabrina Vale's audit notes.

Finally, she set down the no-confidence memo Noah had taken from Ethan's printer tray.

Grant's smile weakened.

Claire opened the black folder to the handwritten planning sheet her father had preserved.

"Do you recognize this?"

Grant looked at it and said nothing.

One board member stepped closer.

"Is that your handwriting?"

Grant's voice became sharp.

"A private planning note from years ago proves nothing."

"No," Claire said.

"But your access records, your consulting agreement with Ethan, the inserted proxy, and the payment trail deserve an independent review."

Grant turned on Ethan.

"Tell them who inserted the pages."

Ethan's face was pale.

"I did."

Murmurs moved through the ballroom.

Grant seized on the admission.

"There."

Ethan continued.

"Because you gave them to me."

Grant went still.

Ethan pointed to the flash drive on the table.

"And you gave me the altered board presentation last night."

"You're lying to save yourself."

"Maybe I am trying to save what's left of myself."

Ethan looked at Claire.

"But I'm done saving you."

The room became silent.

No one shouted.

No one needed to.

The evidence was enough for the board to act cautiously but immediately.

By an emergency vote, Grant was placed on administrative leave pending an independent forensic review.

His system access was suspended.

The company accounts connected to the suspicious invoices were flagged for external audit.

Naomi made it clear that no one in the ballroom was declaring guilt.

They were preserving records and protecting the company until professionals could determine exactly what had happened.

Grant's face hardened.

"Thomas would be ashamed of you."

Claire stepped closer.

"My father left me a letter because he was afraid of exactly this."

For the first time, Grant looked frightened.

"What letter?"

Claire did not answer.

That uncertainty was the only thing she gave him.

He left the ballroom escorted by hotel security, not as a prisoner, but as a suspended executive whose access had been revoked.

The board members followed Vivian into a private meeting room.

Naomi went with them.

Soon only Claire and Ethan remained among the flowers.

Ethan looked down the aisle.

"I know there's no wedding."

Claire said nothing.

"I know I don't deserve another chance."

"Then don't ask for one."

He nodded.

Claire removed her engagement ring.

She did not throw it.

She placed it carefully on top of the black folder.

"I loved the person I thought you were."

Ethan's eyes dropped.

"I know."

Claire turned away.

At the ballroom doors, Noah was waiting.

"The guests are starting to come downstairs."

Claire looked at the rows of chairs, the flowers, and the place where her future had been scheduled to begin.

"Good."

Noah stared at her.

"Good?"

May you like

Claire picked up the black folder.

"I'm not disappearing from my own wedding."
