The trial date was set for early autumn. The prosecution needed Lily to testify to establish the timeline of the kidnapping and the specific abuses that occurred in the clinic.
The night before the preliminary hearing, Lily was visibly anxious, pacing the living room floor. "What if she stares at me? What if the lawyers make me look like I'm crazy?"
Sarah intercepted her daughter, placing both hands firmly on Lily's shoulders.
