It was a warm, golden evening in early summer. The horrors of the white, sterile hallway felt like a lifetime ago.

Sarah and Lily sat together on their back porch, watching the sun dip below the Virginia tree line. The air was filled with the sound of crickets and the distant, peaceful hum of the neighborhood.

"Do you ever think about her?" Lily asked softly, breaking the comfortable silence.

"Who, Victoria?" Sarah took a sip of her iced tea. "No. I think about the families we helped. I think about the work we have left to do. And I think about you."

Lily leaned her head against her mother's shoulder. They had been tested in ways neither of them could have anticipated. But the ordeal had not broken them; it had forged them into something unbreakable. They were a team, a family of survivors, looking forward to a bright, wide-open horizon.
