Chapter 12 - Rebuilding Foundations

The transition was messy and chaotic, but it was filled with an unexpected grace. Jax immediately cleaned out the spare room attached to his garage, trading his racing trophies for a secondhand bed and a dresser. Clara spent her weekends at Jax's place, helping paint Leo’s new room a cheerful shade of blue and bringing over home-cooked meals.

One evening, after Leo had gone to bed, Clara and Jax sat on the porch under a canopy of stars. Jax held two bottles of root beer, passing one to Clara.

"You're a lifesaver, you know that?" Jax said, taking a sip. "I would have completely panicked without you showing me how to handle the school enrollment and the social workers."

"We're just helping each other," Clara smiled, pulling her cardigan tighter against the chill. "You gave me a reason to stop hiding in my cabin. I spent so much time letting a man make me feel small and worthless. Helping you and Leo... it reminds me that I have value. That I have a voice."

Jax looked at her, his dark eyes filled with profound respect. "Whoever made you feel small was a fool, Clara. You're the strongest woman I've ever met."

For the first time since she left the granite countertops and the shattered diamond ring behind, Clara felt a deep, unwavering sense of peace. They were an unlikely trio—a runaway bride, a regretful biker, and an orphaned boy—but together, they were building something beautiful from the wreckage of their pasts.
