Chapter 20 - The Chosen Family

It was a bright, clear Tuesday morning—exactly one year to the day since Clara had walked out of a pristine white kitchen and left a diamond ring on a cold granite counter.
She stood in her thriving, sunlit studio, wiping a smudge of cerulean paint from her cheek. The space smelled of oil paints, fresh pine, and possibility. The bell above the door jingled merrily, breaking the quiet.
Jax walked in, his long hair pulled back, wearing his signature leather vest over a flannel shirt. Beside him was Leo, carrying a small cardboard tray.
"Delivery," Leo announced proudly, setting the tray on Clara's front desk. "Sarah said to tell you the blueberry muffins are fresh out of the oven."
"Thank you, sweetie," Clara smiled, taking a steaming cup of coffee from the tray.
Jax leaned against the doorframe, watching her with a soft, affectionate smile. "You're in early today. Big class this afternoon?"
"Just prepping," Clara replied, looking around the room filled with colorful canvases and the easels Jax had built for her.

She looked at the ex-motorcycle racer and the bright-eyed little boy. They were an unconventional trio. They weren't bound by traditional marriage contracts or biological bloodlines. They were bound by choice, by mutual respect, and by the shared, messy journey of healing.
Clara took a sip of her coffee, the warmth spreading through her chest. She had lost everything to find herself, and in doing so, she had found them. The courage it took to leave the wrong life had led her, beautifully and perfectly, to the right one.
