Chapter 1: The Call That Ended an Empire

The first thing Adrian Vale heard after the phone screen turned toward him was not Evelyn’s voice.

It was silence.

The kind of silence that comes before a funeral.

His face went pale as he stared at the live video call glowing in Evelyn’s hand.

For ten minutes, every word, every strike, every cruel command had been seen by someone he feared more than any judge, investor, or enemy.

Her father.

Victor Harlan.

The man Adrian had spent years pretending not to fear.

From the speaker, Victor’s voice came cold and steady.

“Adrian… start planning the funeral for the Vale empire.”

Vanessa stumbled backward, her champagne flute shattering across the marble floor.

Adrian’s mouth opened, but no sound came out.

Evelyn stood in front of him, torn gown clinging to her shoulders, blood on her lip, but her eyes were calm.

Too calm.

That was when Adrian realized the truth.

She had not been enduring him.

She had been recording him.

And worse…

She had been waiting.

Outside, sirens screamed through the night.

The double doors shook under heavy pounding.

Adrian turned toward Evelyn.

“You planned this?”

Evelyn smiled softly.

May you like

“No, Adrian. You did.”

Then the doors burst open.
