Chapter 6: Vanessa’s Confession

Vanessa testified three weeks later.
The courtroom was packed.
Adrian sat at the defense table in a gray suit that could not hide the ruin in his face.
Vanessa walked to the witness stand without looking at him.
When asked if Adrian had manipulated her, she said yes.
When asked if he had used her accounts to move illegal funds, she said yes.
When asked if he had planned to destroy Evelyn publicly, Vanessa looked directly at Adrian.
Then she said the sentence that ended him.
“He told me Evelyn would be easier to control once everyone believed she was broken.”
Adrian slammed his fist on the table.
“Liar!”
The judge ordered him silent.
Vanessa continued, voice shaking.
“I thought I was winning. But I was just another tool in his hand.”
Evelyn listened from the front row.
She did not smile.
Because victory did not erase pain.
It only gave pain a witness.
By the end of the trial, Adrian Vale was convicted on multiple charges.
Fraud.
Coercion.
Assault.
Conspiracy.
When the sentence was read, Adrian turned one last time toward Evelyn.
His eyes begged for the fear he used to see.
