The civil proceedings followed the criminal conviction with brutal efficiency. With Julian serving a forty-year sentence, the divorce was finalized in a matter of weeks. The ironclad prenuptial agreement Julian had once forced Elena to sign was thrown out by the judge, nullified by his felony convictions and the undeniable evidence of extreme physical cruelty.

Elena was awarded a substantial portion of the remaining Vance estate. The settlement was vast, but to Elena, the money felt heavy, tainted by the blood and silence it had once bought.

Her first act as a legally single woman was to walk into a government office and reclaim her maiden name. When the clerk handed her the updated identification card, reading "Elena Rostova," a profound sense of lightness washed over her. She was no longer a Vance. She was no longer a possession.

Marcus, who had become a trusted friend over the harrowing year, met her for coffee afterward. "So, Miss Rostova," he smiled, lifting his mug. "What does a free woman do with a new name and a small fortune?"

Elena looked out the cafe window at the bustling New York streets. The fear that used to dictate her every move was entirely gone. "She makes sure no one else has to endure what she did," she replied quietly, a new resolve hardening in her chest.
