The sterile, bright lights of the emergency room were a stark contrast to the dim, moody elegance of the penthouse. Elena lay in a hospital bed, wincing as a forensic nurse meticulously documented every bruise, every welt, and every laceration. It was an agonizing process, but Elena knew it was the armor she needed for the battle ahead.
Marcus walked into the room hours later, looking exhausted but victorious. He pulled up a chair beside her bed.
"You did it, Elena," he said softly, his eyes filled with immense respect. "The police have the weapon, the scene photos, and most importantly, the audio. It's ironclad."
"Where is he?" she asked, her voice raspy.
