Chapter 3: Two Hundred

The tension in the penthouse snapped on a Friday evening. Julian had been drinking heavy scotch, pacing the marble floors in a black button-down shirt. Elena, wearing a simple red silk slip dress, stood near the windows. A minor disagreement over a dinner reservation was all it took to ignite the powder keg.

The violence was sudden and overwhelming. As the assault began, Elena managed to slip her hand to the folds of her dress, her thumb finding the small button on the black device. A tiny red indicator light blinked to life, dropping silently onto the cold marble.

Julian unbuckled his heavy leather belt. In the background, Beatrice sat casually on the blue tufted sofa. She didn't flinch. Instead, she lazily reached for an ice bucket, pouring herself a fresh glass of champagne, utterly indifferent to the horror unfolding feet away.

Elena was forced to the ground, her face and hands bruised and bleeding, smearing the pristine floor. Julian stood menacingly over her, his chest heaving with rage as he lashed out, sadistically counting his strikes.

"199," Julian barked, his face twisted in fury. "Come on. One more time." He raised his arm again. "200. 200."

Elena lay on the floor, her breathing ragged. Her trembling, blood-stained hand rested near the device. She slowly brought her cell phone to her ear. Despite her battered face, her eyes were clear and defiant.

"They don't need to," Elena whispered into the phone, her voice echoing in the quiet room. She locked eyes with her abuser. "It recorded everything."

Julian froze. The belt dropped to his side. His expression morphed instantly from violent rage to sheer, unadulterated panic. "Who did you call?" he demanded, his voice cracking.

Elena offered a weak but triumphant smile, glancing down at the blinking red light of the transmitter on the floor.

"My lawyer heard it all."
