Chapter 10 - The Banquet of Lies.

Quinn fired twice at the trapdoor lock while gasoline spread across the cellar ceiling.
The tactical officers rammed the wood from below.
They escaped seconds before flames consumed the cutting floor.
Outside, Willow watched another piece of her childhood collapse into fire.
Lucas called her from an unlisted number.
"Come to the Sterling Grand at eight."
"You tried to kill us."
"I tried to keep my family intact."
"Your family is a crime scene."
Lucas ignored the insult.
"The foundation board votes tonight."
"On what?"
"Whether you remain competent to control the Ashcroft Trust."
Willow realized the forged medical records were not merely a defense against the slap.
They were a weapon aimed at her inheritance.
"If you do not appear, the board will accept the records as uncontested."
The line ended.
Quinn wanted Willow in protective custody.
Celeste wanted the memory card duplicated and released immediately.
Willow wanted the people who had watched her humiliation to watch her answer it.
At eight, she returned to the same ballroom in the same torn blue gown.
Her cheek was purple beneath the chandeliers.
Conversation stopped as she crossed the room.
Some guests looked shocked by her torn gown.
Others looked annoyed that the evidence of violence had interrupted another elegant evening.
The elderly donor from the fire stood and offered Willow her chair.
Willow thanked her but remained standing.
Across the ballroom, three servers wore small silver pins shaped like ash trees.
Celeste had quietly recruited them to preserve recordings if the network failed.
Every mirrored column now reflected more than the stage.
It reflected witnesses who had chosen not to look away.
Lucas noticed the pins and whispered something to his security chief.
The chief moved toward the control room, but Quinn stopped him at the door.
For the first time, Lucas did not command every person in the room.
Lucas waited onstage beside Evelyn and Adrian.
He wore another black tuxedo and a white bandage around his injured hand.
"My wife has suffered a tragic breakdown," he announced.
"I forgive the accusations she made during her illness."
Willow climbed the stage stairs.
"I did not ask for forgiveness."
Evelyn motioned to a psychiatrist seated with the board.
The doctor displayed Willow's fabricated records on a screen.
Willow held up Lena's memory card.
"Then let us compare evidence."
Celeste connected the card to the ballroom projector.
The video showed the slap from the mirrored column.
Gasps spread through the room.
It showed Evelyn ordering Lena's seizure.
It showed Adrian carrying the red case.
Then the screen went black.
Every exit locked at once.
Lucas had cut the ballroom network.
"A manipulated video proves nothing," he said.
The board chair called for an immediate vote on Willow's competency.
Richard entered through the service doors before the first hand rose.
His shirt was stained with blood, but he was alive.
"The Ashcroft Trust does not belong to this board," he said.
Adrian moved behind him with a champagne glass.
Richard drank before Willow could warn him.
His knees folded.
The glass shattered across the stage.
Willow caught her father as his breathing failed.
Adrian pointed at her with rehearsed horror.
"She poisoned him."
Lucas raised his phone and began recording.
Sirens approached outside, summoned before Richard ever entered.

The ballroom doors opened.
Police rushed directly toward Willow.
