Chapter 1 - The Storm and the Signet

The rain lashed against the towering glass windows of the grand ballroom.
Inside, crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over the royal auction.
Wealthy elites murmured softly over glasses of vintage champagne.
They were waiting to bid on priceless relics of a forgotten era.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors groaned open.
A violent gust of wind swept into the pristine room.
The storm outside howled, throwing sheets of water across the marble threshold.
Standing in the doorway was an old woman.
She looked to be in her seventies, her pale face weathered by time and harsh winters.
Her wet, messy grey hair clung tightly to her cheeks.
She wore a tattered, muddy trench coat that dripped dark water onto the immaculate floor.
She looked utterly exhausted, yet her eyes burned with an unbreakable determination.
The ballroom fell into a stunned, absolute silence.
The string quartet stopped playing mid-note.
Every eye fixed on the unexpected intruder.
She did not flinch under their collective gaze.
Instead, she began to walk slowly straight into the center of the room.
Her muddy boots left dark, deliberate stains on the polished white marble.
From the crowd, an elegant woman in her forties stepped forward to block her path.
She wore a black off-the-shoulder evening gown and a dazzling diamond necklace.
Her beautiful face twisted into a mask of pure disgust.
She pointed an aggressive, manicured finger at the old woman.
"This is a royal auction, not a shelter," the elegant woman said loudly.
"Take your rain and mud outside."
The old woman stopped her slow march.
She did not even blink at the elegant woman's harsh words.
She kept her intense gaze fixed on the center of the room.
Slowly, she reached into the deep pocket of her ruined coat.
The wealthy guests tensed, unsure of what she might produce.
Her weathered, dirt-stained hand emerged from the fabric.
She opened her palm to reveal a small black velvet cushion.
Resting delicately on the dark fabric was a gleaming gold signet ring.
It featured a large, flawless red gemstone that caught the chandelier light.
Carved into the gold was an unmistakable royal crest showing two lions and a crown.
An aristocrat in his sixties pushed his way to the front of the gathered crowd.
He wore a classic black tuxedo with a crisp bow tie.
His analytical eyes darted from the old woman's face to the object in her hand.
He leaned in close, his usual polite composure shattering entirely.
His eyes widened in pure, unadulterated disbelief.
"Where did you get this?" the aristocrat whispered, his voice trembling in the quiet room.
"This crest... it belongs to the founding bloodline."
The old woman finally looked directly at him.
Her expression hardened into a mask of quiet, intense authority.
The tension in the luxurious room became suffocating.

She took a slow, natural breath.
"I came to reclaim what was stolen," she said firmly.
