Chapter 10 - The Diner in Indiana

Eleanor canceled a week's worth of board meetings with a single, unapologetic email. She and Lily drove for six hours, watching the city skyline fade into sprawling farmlands and eventually into the rusted aesthetic of a fading factory town.

The address Arthur provided belonged to a modest, slightly run-down apartment building above a 24-hour diner. It was raining when they pulled into the gravel parking lot.

Eleanor turned off the ignition, her hands gripping the steering wheel. She looked at Lily, who was clutching the brown leather wallet to her chest, her eyes wide with a mix of hope and terror.

"Are you ready?" Eleanor asked softly.

Lily nodded, taking a deep, shaky breath. "What if she doesn't want to see me? What if she forgot about me?"

"She kept that photo, Lily. She tried to find me to save you," Eleanor said, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from the girl's face. "A sister's love doesn't just forget. Believe me, I know."

Together, the wealthy executive and the former street child stepped out into the rain, walking toward the neon glow of the diner's sign, ready to bring their family back together.
