While the housekeeper drew a warm bath for Lily, Eleanor sat alone in her study, staring at the photograph. It had been nearly thirty years since Eleanor and Maya were separated.
After a tragic accident took their parents, Eleanor was adopted by the wealthy Vance family. Maya, sick at the time, was left behind in the fractured foster system. Eleanor had spent a fortune and decades trying to track Maya down, only to hit dead ends.
The photo Lily carried was the exact copy of the one Eleanor kept in her own safe. If Lily's sister possessed this wallet, she either was Maya living under a new name, or she knew what happened to her.
