Chapter 10 - The Unforgivable Truth

Emma remained perfectly still. She didn't interrupt or react to Adrian’s performance. When he finally sat down, looking appropriately devastated, Judge Miller turned to Emma's table.
"Mr. Vance? Your response?"
"Your Honor," Vance said, standing up. "My client did not abduct her children. She rescued them from a life-threatening situation orchestrated by the petitioner. We have submitted Exhibit A: the security footage from the Sterling estate on the night in question."
Vance queued up the video on the courtroom monitor.
The screen flickered to life. The audio was crystal clear. The court watched as Eleanor screamed at Emma to "take your bastards" into the blizzard. They watched Emma, crying and begging, holding a newborn in the heavy snow. And then, they heard Adrian’s cold, lifeless voice: "You should have thought of that before embarrassing my family."

The courtroom was dead silent. Adrian’s face drained of all color. He hadn't realized the security cameras on his own porch recorded audio.
Judge Miller stared at the paused frame of Adrian tossing the manila folder into the snow. The disgust on her face was palpable.
