Chapter 2 - The Black Fleet

The cruel smirks on Adrian and Eleanor’s faces faltered. Before either could ask what she meant, the heavy iron gates at the end of the driveway groaned open.

Through the blinding snow, the blazing headlights of three matte-black SUVs pierced the darkness. They drove with military precision, tires crunching over the iced gravel, before coming to a synchronized halt right at the base of the mansion's steps.

The doors of the lead vehicle opened. Four men in tailored dark suits stepped out, completely ignoring the freezing weather. The leader, a tall, broad-shouldered man with a silver earpiece—Marcus—walked straight to Emma. He didn't look at Adrian.

"Ms. Hayes," Marcus said, his tone incredibly respectful as he bowed his head. "The perimeter is secured. The assets are frozen."

He gently took the crying baby from Emma's arms, cradling the child with surprising tenderness, while another security agent carefully lifted the bassinet holding the second twin. A third agent grabbed Emma’s suitcase.

Adrian took a hesitant step out of the doorway, the snow now hitting his bare ankles. "Hey! Who the hell are you people? Emma, what is this?"

Emma didn't look back. She slipped into the heated, leather-lined interior of the SUV. Marcus shut the door firmly behind her, turning his cold gaze toward the two figures shivering on the porch.

"Have a pleasant evening," Marcus said plainly. He climbed into the front seat. Within seconds, the convoy reversed, turned, and disappeared into the winter night, leaving Adrian and Eleanor in a stunned, deafening silence.
