Chapter 3 - The Signature That Wasn't His.

.Claire photographed the document before anyone moved closer.

The page claimed that Adrian had authorized a private separation agreement eight months earlier.

It stated that Helena had voluntarily left the marriage and accepted a large settlement.

It also stated that she had waived direct contact with Adrian for one year.

Adrian read the first paragraph twice.

Then he looked at Helena.

"Did you ever see this?"

She shook her head.

"No."

Vivian reached the doorway.

"That proves nothing."

Claire turned toward her.

"It proves someone created a legal document using Adrian's name."

Vivian folded her arms.

"Maybe he signed more papers than he remembers."

Adrian looked at the signature again.

The shape was convincing, but the final stroke was wrong.

His father had taught him to end his signature with a short upward line.

The copy on the page curved downward.

"I did not sign this."

The young man in the room tried to move toward a side exit.

Security stopped him.

He introduced himself as Owen Price and claimed he was a document consultant.

Claire asked who employed him.

Owen looked at Vivian before answering.

That glance was enough.

Helena stood in the doorway wrapped in Adrian's jacket.

Her breathing became shallow when she saw Owen.

Adrian noticed.

"You know him?"

Helena nodded.

"He brought me papers."

Owen quickly denied it.

Helena stepped forward despite her fear.

"You told me Adrian wanted me gone."

"I never met you."

Helena pointed to a silver ring on Owen's right hand.

"You tapped that ring against the table every time you told me to sign something."

Owen stopped moving.

Claire quietly asked security to preserve the room and prevent anyone from removing documents.

The ambulance crew arrived downstairs, and Helena finally agreed to be examined.

Adrian remained beside her while Claire began cataloging what she could see without disturbing potential evidence.

Inside another file cabinet, they found printed copies of text messages between Adrian and Helena.

Some were real.

Others had never existed.

The fabricated messages made Adrian appear cold, impatient, and ready to end the marriage.

Helena stared at them with tears in her eyes.

"She showed me these."

Adrian's stomach turned.

"I never wrote that."

"I know now."

"Why didn't you call me?"

Helena looked down.

"I tried."

She explained that on the night she disappeared, Vivian had invited her to the mansion after claiming Adrian had suffered a private crisis.

When Helena arrived, Vivian showed her falsified messages and insisted Adrian wanted space.

Helena's phone then vanished from the guest room where she had left it charging.

Her car service was canceled.

When she tried to leave on foot, Vivian's driver told her a storm had closed the road.

The next morning, Vivian presented more documents and said Adrian had already instructed his lawyers to begin the separation.

Helena had been emotionally shattered and confused.

Before she could contact anyone, her bank cards stopped working.

Her email password changed.

Her phone number was disconnected.

Adrian listened without interrupting.

Every sentence made his months of searching feel more unbearable.

Vivian suddenly laughed from the doorway.

"You are making her sound helpless."

Helena turned toward her.

"You made sure I had no way to prove what you were doing."

Vivian's smile faded.

Claire opened a second folder.

Inside was a list of wire transfers from one of Adrian's dormant family trusts.

The recipient was a company called Hartwell Domestic Services.

Adrian knew no such company.

Helena did.

"That's the name on my uniform contract," she said.

Claire looked at the transfer totals.

Then she looked at Adrian.

"Someone has been billing your own trust for Helena's labor."

May you like

Adrian stared at Vivian.

For the first time that night, she did not have an answer.
