Chapter 9 - The Harbor Account.
.The date made everyone cautious.
No one claimed that the transfer caused Arthur Cole's death.
Claire was careful about that.
But the timing proved the Harbor account mattered far more than Vivian wanted them to believe.
The bank archive showed that thirty million dollars had moved from Northbridge through Harbor over seven years.
Much of it ended in companies connected to Vivian's family.
Arthur had apparently discovered the pattern shortly before his death.
His handwritten note now made sense.
Vivian knew what happened to the Harbor account.
Adrian asked Nathan what he remembered from that week.
Nathan said their father had been furious about missing charitable funds.
He had planned to confront someone at a private board meeting.
The meeting never happened because Arthur died unexpectedly from a heart condition the next morning.
Vivian shook her head.
"You are turning accounting problems into a family myth."
Claire agreed that speculation would help no one.
"Then let's stick to the records."
The records were bad enough.
Owen's files showed that Vivian had spent years creating layers between Northbridge and the final recipients.
When Helena photographed the binder, Vivian apparently realized the old paper trail could still expose everything.
That was when the campaign against Helena began.
Nathan sat with his head in his hands.
"Why keep her in the house?"
Helena answered before Vivian could.
"Because she wanted to know whether I had told Adrian."
For the first two months, Vivian questioned Helena almost every evening.
She disguised the questions as concern.
Had Helena spoken to anyone about Arthur's papers?
Had she emailed photographs to herself?
Had she mentioned Northbridge to Adrian?
When Helena refused to answer, Vivian produced more false messages suggesting Adrian had moved on.
It was emotional pressure, not physical force, and that made it easier for outsiders to miss.
Helena had gradually stopped trusting her own judgment.
Adrian listened with a clenched jaw.
He hated the image of Helena sitting alone while Vivian edited reality around her.
The forensic specialist interrupted with another discovery.
Owen's flash drive contained an audio file recorded three weeks earlier.
Vivian's voice was unmistakable.
"If Adrian finds her, we use the unstable-wife story."
Owen asked what happened if Helena produced the ledger photographs.
Vivian replied without hesitation.
"Then we say Adrian changed the records to blame me."
Nathan looked sick.
Adrian felt something inside him settle.
Vivian had prepared a lie for every possible truth.
That was her strength.
It was also becoming her weakness.
The more versions she created, the more contradictions she left behind.
Claire asked Vivian whether she wanted to respond.
Vivian's attorney advised her not to speak.
Vivian ignored him.
"You all needed me."
She pointed toward Adrian.
"Your father left a financial disaster."
Then toward Nathan.
"You would have lost the company."
Finally, she looked at Helena.
"And you walked into matters you did not understand."
Helena did not flinch this time.
"So you decided I should disappear."
Vivian's eyes sharpened.
"I decided you should stop interfering."
The admission was small, but the room heard it.
Claire wrote it down.
Before anyone could continue, the front gate called security.
A vehicle had arrived carrying Owen Price.
He had returned voluntarily.
He claimed he wanted protection.
And he brought a sealed envelope addressed to Helena.
When Helena opened it, she found a handwritten note from Owen.
