Chapter 17: A New Purpose

A few days later, Vivian knocked lightly on the heavy mahogany door of Arthur’s study. He looked up from his oak desk, instantly setting aside a stack of legal documents and taking off his reading glasses.
"Come in, Viv. What's on your mind?" he asked, gesturing to the leather armchair across from him.
Vivian sat down, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. "I've been thinking a lot lately, Dad. About how incredibly lucky I am. When things got bad with Julian, I had somewhere safe to go. I had you to stand between me and them. But most women in that situation... they don't have an Arthur Vance. They are trapped by finances, by housing, by fear."
Arthur leaned forward, his full attention on her, recognizing the serious tone in her voice. "Go on."
"I want to start a foundation," Vivian stated, her voice clear and full of conviction. "A sanctuary fund for expectant and new mothers who need to escape toxic or abusive environments. We can provide immediate emergency housing, elite legal representation to protect them and their children, and financial grants to help them get back on their feet."
Arthur was silent for a long moment. He looked at his daughter, seeing not just the girl he had raised, but a fiercely intelligent, compassionate woman who had turned her own trauma into a weapon to protect others.
He slowly opened his desk drawer, pulled out a heavy leather checkbook, and uncapped his favorite fountain pen.

"I think that is the best business proposal I have heard in my entire life," Arthur said, his voice thick with pride. "What are we calling it?"
Vivian smiled, a radiant, powerful expression. "The Leonis Foundation. After Leo. It means lion. Because sometimes, mothers just need to know they have a pride behind them."
