Chapter 7: The Truth Revealed

Arthur Vance’s question hung in the air, cold and lethal. The silence in the grand hall was absolute. No one dared to breathe, let alone speak. Eleanor, previously acting like the undisputed queen of the room, now looked like a terrified child. Her sparkling champagne dress suddenly seemed ridiculous against the gravity of the situation.

"I asked a question," Arthur repeated, his voice dropping a terrifying octave. One of the security men at his flank subtly shifted his stance, adjusting his suit jacket.

Before Arthur could target Eleanor directly, a young woman in a sage-green bridesmaid dress rushed into the hall through a side door. She was out of breath and holding a small, dark green velvet box.

"Sarah! Sarah, I found it!" the bridesmaid called out, entirely oblivious to the heavy tension in the room. She jogged over to the bride. "You left it on the counter in the ladies' room when we went to touch up our makeup. It was just sitting right next to the sinks!"

A collective gasp echoed through the room. Sarah snatched the box, snapping it open to reveal the glittering emerald ring. Her face flushed a deep, humiliating crimson.

Arthur’s gaze slowly shifted from the ring box to Eleanor. The older woman visibly shrank.

"So," Arthur said, the syllables crisp and laced with venom. "A careless mistake by the bride. And yet, my pregnant daughter was assaulted, humiliated, and stripped in the middle of a ballroom. Who. Touched. Her."

Vivian placed a gentle hand on her father’s arm. "She did, Dad," Vivian said quietly, pointing directly at Eleanor. "And Julian stood by and watched."
