Chapter 10 - The Light of Spring

Spring arrived in the city, bringing bright sunshine and blooming cherry blossoms.
The transformative school year at Oakridge Academy was finally coming to a joyful end.
Parents gathered on the lush green lawn for the annual spring assembly.
Sarah sat in the front row, wearing a light floral dress instead of her heavy undercover coats.
She watched proudly as the children lined up on the grand outdoor stage.
Lily stood near the center of the student choir, her face glowing with pure happiness.
She sang loudly and clearly alongside her supportive classmates.
Even Leo was up there, blending in perfectly with the rest of the children.
He looked genuinely happy, no longer burdened by his father's dark, suffocating shadow.
After the final song concluded, the students rushed out to meet their smiling families.
Lily ran straight into her mother's open arms.
"You sounded absolutely beautiful up there, sweetie," Sarah praised her warmly.
Lily beamed, holding a small paper certificate she had just received for academic excellence.
"Mr. Harrison said I am one of the bravest students he knows," the little girl shared proudly.
Sarah smiled softly, knowing exactly how much truth those simple words held.
They walked slowly across the vibrant green campus together.
The heavy, terrifying memories of the principal's office felt like a completely distant lifetime ago.
Justice had forcefully done its necessary job in the cold federal courtroom.
But true, lasting healing had happened right here in the warm sunlight.
Sarah opened the car door for her daughter, feeling an overwhelming sense of profound gratitude.
Her dangerous career as a federal agent would always bring new challenges and dark cases.
But as long as she could protect this precious, innocent smile, she knew she could face absolutely anything.
"Are we going home, Mommy?" Lily asked as she safely buckled her seatbelt.
Sarah started the engine and looked back at her wonderfully resilient little girl.

"Yes, sweetheart," Sarah answered with a deep, deeply contented sigh.
"We are going home."
