Chapter 6 - The Apology
The morning bell rang brightly through the vibrant hallways of Oakridge Academy.
Lily walked confidently toward her locker to grab her math textbook.
She felt a sudden, familiar presence approaching from her left side.
It was Leo, standing quietly without his usual entourage of lackeys.
His school uniform was slightly rumpled, and his arrogant smirk was completely gone.
He looked incredibly nervous, keeping his eyes glued to his scuffed leather shoes.
Lily tensed slightly but stood her ground with newfound courage.
"What do you want, Leo?" she asked with a steady, calm voice.
Leo took a deep breath and finally looked up into her hazel eyes.
"I wanted to apologize properly," the young boy said softly.
"My mother made me write a letter, but I wanted to say it out loud."
He awkwardly handed over a neatly folded piece of white notebook paper.
"I am truly sorry for hurting you on the stairs," he admitted with genuine remorse.
"I was trying to show off, and it was cruel and stupid of me."
Lily looked at the boy, realizing he looked just as vulnerable as she had felt two weeks ago.
"Thank you for saying that," she replied, accepting the folded paper.
"I forgive you, but you need to prove you are actually better now."
Leo nodded earnestly, a small, grateful smile forming on his face.

He turned around and walked quietly back toward his own homeroom class.
Lily smiled to herself, feeling the last heavy shadow finally lift from her heart.
