The quiet hum of the hospital monitors provided a steady rhythm to the intense room.
Hours had passed since the first snow began to fall outside the frosted windowpane.
Clara squeezed her father’s hand with astonishing strength as another powerful contraction crested.
Dr. Evans stood at the foot of the bed, her voice calm and endlessly encouraging.
"You are doing incredibly well, Clara."
"Just one more strong push," the doctor instructed gently.
Clara closed her eyes, gathering every ounce of strength left in her exhausted body.
She pushed with everything she had, letting out a sharp, breathless cry.
Suddenly, the tense silence of the room was broken by a beautiful, piercing wail.
Arthur let out a shaky breath, genuine tears welling in his piercing silver eyes.
"He is here, sweetheart," Arthur whispered, kissing her damp forehead.
Dr. Evans swiftly wrapped the newborn in a soft, pristine white hospital blanket.
She placed the tiny, crying bundle directly onto Clara’s chest.
Clara gasped, pulling the small weight carefully against her racing heart.
The baby’s frantic cries slowly quieted as he felt the familiar, soothing rhythm of his mother’s heartbeat.
He had a shock of dark hair and perfect, tiny fingers that immediately grasped the fabric of her gown.
"Hello, my beautiful boy," Clara murmured, her voice thick with overwhelming, pure emotion.
Arthur leaned over, resting his large hand gently over Clara’s trembling one.
"He is absolutely perfect, Clara."
"What are you going to name him?" Arthur asked softly.
Clara looked down at the innocent, peaceful face of her newborn son.
She thought about the legacy he would inherit and the immense strength it took to bring him here safely.
"Leo," Clara announced, a proud, exhausted smile breaking across her face.
"Leo Arthur Sterling."
