Chapter 7 - Sanctuary

Daniel bypassed the servant's quarters entirely, leading Elara up the grand staircase to the East Wing—a private sector of the mansion strictly off-limits to the staff. He ushered her into a massive, warmly lit guest suite and helped her sit on the edge of a plush king-sized bed.

Within minutes, the estate's private physician arrived. Daniel stood by the window, his jaw tight, as the doctor cleaned and bandaged the cut on Elara's forehead, checked her vitals, and monitored the baby's heartbeat. Hearing the strong, steady thump-thump of the fetal heart monitor seemed to drain the tension from Daniel's shoulders.

"The baby is fine," the doctor confirmed, packing his bag. "But her blood pressure is elevated. She needs rest, Mr. Sterling. Absolute peace and quiet."

"She will have it," Daniel promised.

Once the doctor left, Elara looked down at her hands, her chopped hair falling awkwardly around her face. "Mr. Sterling, I... I can go back to my room now. I'm sorry for the trouble."

"You aren't going anywhere," Daniel said softly, stepping closer. "This is your room now. And you are no longer a maid in this house, Elara. You are my guest."
