Chapter 15: The Return

When the man came back, something had changed.
Not dramatically.
But enough.
His expression was calmer now—not because the situation had improved, but because he had accepted it.
The blonde woman looked up at him immediately.
As if waiting.
Not for forgiveness—
but for direction.
He took his seat again, his movements steady.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said.
The words drew their full attention.
“We built something here,” he continued. “But somewhere along the way, it stopped being honest.”
The woman in blue lowered her gaze.
The blonde woman didn’t look away.
“I don’t blame you for being afraid,” he said to her. “But I can’t accept being lied to like this.”
Her lips trembled slightly.
“I understand,” she whispered.
“And I don’t blame you for trying to help,” he added, glancing at the woman in blue. “But control isn’t the same as care.”
She nodded slowly.
“I see that now.”
The girl watched quietly, sensing the shift.
This wasn’t about anger anymore.
It was about choices.
“What happens now?” the blonde woman asked softly.
The man didn’t answer right away.
