Chapter 7: The Fall of Pretending

No one spoke at first.

Because there was nothing left to say.

The man held the pillow for a moment longer, his expression unreadable.

Then he looked up.

First at the blonde woman.

Then at the woman in blue.

The blonde woman’s composure broke first.

“It’s not what it looks like,” she said quickly, her voice shaking. “I—I can explain—”

“Please do,” the man said quietly.

There was no anger in his tone.

But there was something worse.

Disappointment.

The kind that doesn’t need volume.

The woman in blue stepped forward.

“This was my idea,” she said suddenly.

The words came fast.

Too fast.

As if she had been holding them back and couldn’t anymore.

The blonde woman turned to her in shock.

“What are you doing?” she whispered.

“I’m fixing it,” the woman in blue replied under her breath.

Then she faced the man.

“She didn’t want to lie,” she continued. “I convinced her.”

The man’s gaze didn’t soften.

“Why?” he asked.

The question hung there.

Simple.

Direct.

Unavoidable.

The woman in blue hesitated.

Because the real answer wasn’t simple.

“It was… necessary,” she said finally.

“For what?”

No response.

Because now, even she knew—

there was no version of the truth that would sound acceptable.

The girl stood quietly beside the man, watching everything unfold.

She didn’t feel proud.

She didn’t feel confused.

She just felt… still.

Because for her—

May you like

this wasn’t about exposing anything.

It was about telling the truth.
