Chapter 18: A Different Conversation

They met in a small café.

No grand setting. No audience.

Just two people sitting across from each other, without the protection of appearances.

The man arrived first.

The blonde woman followed shortly after.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then he said, “How are you?”

It was a simple question.

But this time, it wasn’t part of a performance.

She considered it carefully.

“Honest?” she asked.

He nodded.

“I’m scared,” she admitted. “But… I’m also relieved.”

He leaned back slightly, taking that in.

“Relieved?” he asked.

She nodded.

“I don’t have to pretend anymore,” she said.

That answer stayed with him.

Because it meant something had already changed.

“I’ve been thinking too,” he said. “About what you said last night.”

She looked at him, waiting.

“I don’t want a perfect life,” he continued. “I want a real one.”

Her eyes softened.

“And if real isn’t what you imagined?” she asked.

“Then we build something new,” he said.

Not easily.

May you like

Not instantly.

But honestly.
