Chapter 9: The Reason Behind the Lie

The floral pillow remained on the table.

No one touched it.

It sat there like a quiet witness—soft, harmless, yet capable of unraveling everything.

The man leaned back in his chair, his posture composed again, but his eyes were different now. Sharper. Colder.

“Start from the beginning,” he said.

His voice wasn’t raised, but it carried authority.

The blonde woman inhaled slowly, her fingers trembling slightly in her lap.

“I… I didn’t know how to tell you,” she began.

“Tell me what?” he asked.

Her eyes lifted to meet his—and for the first time, there was no performance left.

“I’m not pregnant.”

The words landed quietly.

But they hit harder than anything else that night.

The woman in blue closed her eyes briefly, as if bracing for impact.

“I had a condition,” the blonde woman continued. “A year ago. The doctors said it would be… difficult.”

“Difficult,” the man repeated. “Or impossible?”

She hesitated.

“…impossible.”

Silence.

The kind that feels heavier than anger.

“I didn’t want to lose everything,” she said, her voice breaking slightly. “Not this life. Not… you.”

The man didn’t respond immediately.

Because now, the truth wasn’t just about deception.

It was about fear.

And fear is harder to judge.
